The way that a dissertation is set up is different from school to school and your school probably has a template that shows you how to set yours up and what you need to include in it but if there don’t, don’t worry because there are tons of places out there that have templates you can use. Most dissertations are set up like this:

- The acknowledgements
- The abstract
- Table of Contents
- Illustrations or Figures
- Introduction
- Literature Review
- Methods
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusion
- References
- Appendices
This can vary from dissertation to dissertation depending on the subject that you are covering and what your school wants you to include in your dissertation. If you need some help figuring out what should be in it then you school ask your advisor before you start to look for templates, so you know that you are using the right one to help you.

- If you go to the University Of Texas At Austin’s website they have templates for your dissertation under their downloads. They have the templates that you can get for Microsoft Word on their website. They have them separated by the operating systems and version of Word you might have. You can just download the template from their site or check out your Microsoft Word and see if you have the templates already.
- If you are looking for a specific template for your dissertation, like one that is geared towards the type of field or program that you are in, then you are going to have to check out Ohio State’s website. They have templates for humanities, art, science, business, mathematics, and so on. These templates might be a better choice if you have to write a specific dissertation.
- The University of Tennessee Knoxville has some great templates for your dissertation on their website. They have a general one, APA, multipart, and their own school’s template on their website.
- You can get great templates for your dissertation from any college or university website that has a grad program. And there is a good chance that your school has a specific template that you need to use for yours. Check with them first before you use on of these great websites for a template. You don’t want to use on of these templates and then find out later that it is wrong.
